The 11 year old was murdered in Croxteth Park in August 2007.

A 5km family oriented event in Croxteth Park (close to where the Jones family lived) on Sunday 14th September. All sponsorship money raised will go towards the target of £100,000 towards the building of the Rhys Jones Community Centre.

This event, rescheduled from its original date in July, is open to all, regardless of age or fitness level. Entrants are encouraged to walk, jog or run the 5km (3.1 mile) course, raising as much sponsorship money as possible in the process.

The event is organised by Inmotion, a company headed by former Commonwealth Games silver medalist John Gladwin. John said "We were honoured to be asked to organise this event onin behalf of Liverpool Unites. Liverpool is synonymous with sporting achievement and participation; it is also acclaimed for its great sense of community.

"Given the great spirit of the people on Merseyside we are sure everyone will take the opportunity to make this event, and the cause it represents, a massive success"

Liverpool Unites is the official charity of the Liverpool ECHO. The charity is strongly symbolised by a purple ribbon, which combines the blue and red of the city'sies two famous football clubs. Liverpool Unites has initially committed to raising £100,000 towards the costs needed to build the Rhys Jones memorial centre, and has achieved half of this amount within the first six months.

Melanie Jones, Rhys's mother, said: "Rhys rarely sat still for very long and was always running about - usually with a football at his feet. This will be a great event and will raise money for the community centre as well as helping people to stay healthy. Ste has already got his old trainers out while Owen and I will be waving him and hopefully thousands of others on their way."

We'll be there with fans who're being asked to wear their Everton FC or Liverpool FC football shirts, or strips from whatever team they support.

CENTURY RADIO will be walking with everyone, going past Anfield and Goodison.

The walk's going to be on September 14th - and it's supported not only by CENTURY RADIO, but also by the Rhys Jones memorial Cup.
